The Village Show on Sunday 10th September (from noon to 5pm) in Hook Community Centre and Hartletts Park will build on previous Village Shows and the Flower and Produce Show held by Hook Allotments Association in 2014. 2017’s event will consist of the Flower and Produce Show in the main hall of Hook Community Centre, supported by a traditional tea room and outside activity in Hartletts Park organised by Hook Parish Council, including Hook’s First Dog Show, Ferrets, Donkeys, Birds of Prey, Vintage Cars, Fire and Rescue vehicles, Walls Fairground, local groups and artisans and other interesting activity.
Planting for Hook Flower and Produce Show
We are lucky to have volunteers Diana Whittaker, Steve Rowberry and the Allotment members organising the Hook Flower and Produce Show, so please do support them by making sure you are preparing your entries.
A list of exhibit categories and entry form have been prepared and are available from Diana Whittaker now, either electronically or a hard copy, and will be available from Trees Newsagents nearer the Show date of 10 September.
The vegetable and flower categories are as would be expected in September, but will include the longest runner bean, the heaviest marrow, the biggest vegetable and the most humorous shaped vegetable.
A new category in 2016 for Pre-School children was the “Collage”. This years entry can either be by an individual or hopefully, by way of competition, by one of the many local Pre-School groups in the village.
For anyone under 15 years get practising on a Vegemal: the 8-14s may carve, but the younger ones will have to be more clever and not carve. All age groups are invited to submit a garden in a seed tray. The under 8s are asked for a painting or drawing of the countryside.
Photography you need to know about in advance. The classes are Hook “Corners”; Flowers (garden or allotment); People (single or group); Wildlife and Flight. Hopefully something for everyone to get started on.
This year we will have sufficient space to exhibit handicraft items, which will include Needlework, Knitting, Jewellery, Christmas Decorations, Woodwork, Carving and Ceramics. We, therefore, ask you to submit any handicraft made within the recent past.
Everyone is invited to take part and we hope that you will find many classes to enter. There are very few rules, but these are on the list of categories. There is no charge for any exhibit or for anyone coming to see the show in the Community Centre which opens at 2.00 pm, after judging has taken place.
