Welcome to Hook
It has been lovely walking and driving round Hook this spring with more and more spring bulbs popping up all over the village and they will only multiply as they naturalise. Plus of course, as long as our fundraising permits, we will plant even more next year.
In particular, this year, we loved the war memorial display, the steps from the station to the road, outside Hook fish and chip shop, Crossways car park and by the plough, outside the church and the lovely display by our youngest volunteers in Wellworth Park. Thank you everyone who has helped! Hopefully, next year even more people will be encouraged to plant – you only have to volunteer an hour or two (at times to suit you too) to plant some bulbs and the more people who volunteer the more bulbs we can get in the ground.
More Hanging Baskets
You will hopefully have noticed that more hanging basket poles have been put up around the village – outside Premier, in the centre of the village, outside the church, by the plough and outside Baristas. Hook is all set to bloom and for little outlay this is a superb feel good factor for all the village and those who pass through.
Volunteering
How can you help? We have put dates in our diaries for group village plantings on Wednesdays 15th and 22nd May. We hope you will be able to help us. We want to plant up the village troughs, replace roses if we haven’t already done so, and plant wildflowers. We are also looking into what can be achieved with the area at the front of the Premier store.
Not able to help, well there are plenty of opportunities for some extra gardening fun. There are so many reasons, other than the environment and growing food, why gardening is said to be good for us and these include stress relief, exercise, brain health, nutrition, healing and immunity, plus if you can join the Hook In Bloom volunteers, they are such a friendly bunch. So why not….
